[12] James Murray

July 27, 2017 by Arturo Lopez

Welcome back for episode 12! Work days are long and the news is dire, perhaps it's time for some uplifting house music to set that spirit right.  Not to worry, selector and producer Mr. James Murray is here with some much-needed levity.  Sorry let's back up: Mr James Murray (aka Basilio Nichols aka James N Murray aka NoNonsenseHomo aka Dread Voyage)!

Fresh off a great set at Smartbar's weekly Queen!, he's got some absolutely great selections for us on this one. Here's an article about Smartbar's weekly Queen!, for those unfamiliar with this Chicago party.

James also recently released an excellent album on Jacktone, a more ambient-focused soundtrack for an experimental film.  You can find that release here, and we'd also highly recommend checking out anything coming out from Jacktone right now. Enjoy!

Next up for episode 13: Recordings from a late-night party in the woods: darkness, open sky, and mood music from two talented folks we love.

[01] Welcome Aboard

November 30, 2015 by Arturo Lopez

Welcome to the show!

For our initial transmission we are casting a wide net, previewing the variety and range of sounds we are interested in showcasing in more depth down the line.   You can expect future episodes to focus more tightly on specific themes; genres, labels, or important musicians we feel worth sharing.   But to start, a little something for a variety of tastes!

...In the future we might do a whole show on early 90's Prescription Records, or WBMX radio sounds from Chicago, or Amsterdam's Delsin. There is a pretty good chance you'll get an episode showcasing Basic Channel and their contemporary affiliates, or 100 minutes of pain from Hospital Productions... or 100 minutes of ambient bliss.

In any case we're going broad but not (too) deep to start, and will plunge the depths moving forward with our own sets and our guests'.   Thanks for joining us as we set off on this trip.

EPISODE 1: Welcome Aboard!

[90 Minutes, 148 MB]

Disco Edits and South African Boogie from Letta Mbulu lead us to a smooth cruising altitude, eventually spending some time in the clouds with a great live recording from London's Barbican earlier this summer. Deeper sounds from Chain Reaction and some 90's high energy take us towards modern love from Morgan Geist and beyond.  Mixed by a human on turntables.
